As for singer Jason “Sundance” Head, best known for winning The Voice in 2016, tragedy seems to have been averted.
But artists can offer plenty of thoughts and prayers at this time.
Late Friday, Head’s representative told the New York Post that Head was shot in a “naval area,” but fortunately no vital organs were left injured.
The incident occurred at a Texas ranch where Head was alone.
“This is Misty. We don’t have much information, but please keep Sundance in your prayers,” Head’s wife wrote in her first Facebook update.
“According to the paramedics who called me, Mr. Sundance died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. They stabilized him until the flight (according to paramedics). We are now… Heading to Tyler.
“Again, this is the only information I have at this time. Please keep him in your prayers.”
After some time, Misty provided a follow-up message that calmed the nerves of her followers and also provided many more important details.
“It was not his hunting rifle and no one shot him,” she posted on Facebook Friday night. “He got out of the car and reached down to grab the 22, and as it came out of the holster, he just hit the outside of the Jeep and drove away.”
Misty elaborated as follows:
“Sundance said it happened so fast that he could see the bullet miss. He thought he had called 911, but that wasn’t the case. He said it happened right after he was hit. I reached into my pocket to call, but the phone wasn’t there, just covered in blood, and I drove out of the driveway onto the highway to alert my car for help.
“After about 10 cars, someone came to help and called 911.”

Sundance competed on Season 11 of The Voice as part of coach Blake Shelton’s team, which defeated rivals Billy Gilman, Josh Gallagher, and We McDonald to win.
Most notably, Head wowed fans with versions of songs by superstars like Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, and Keith Urban.
“Well, they released him because there was no surgery to remove the bullet (because of the trauma it was safer to leave him),” Misty also wrote. “I really appreciate the concern. I’m worried he’ll be released so soon. He’s already bleeding from the wound and they haven’t sent him home with antibiotics or painkillers. They probably won’t send him home. I’ll probably take him home and get a second opinion…
“It’s crazy that seven hours ago he narrowly escaped with his life and now he’s being released. We continue to pray for a speedy recovery.”
