Dennison Whitmer has teamed up with Sufjan Stevens for a new single. “Older and freer”. Stevens produced the track, which you can listen to below.
“One of the benefits of getting to know yourself as you get older is that when you feel like things are out of balance, you can look for things that will reset you,” Whitmer said in a statement. “For me, alone time is very important. Nature is very important to me. Whether it’s running or, in this song’s case, hiking, moving my body and being lost in thought has become a must.” I wrote this while camping solo overnight at French Creek State Park, not far from my home in the state.”
“During the coronavirus lockdown, my wife and I realized that if we didn’t take time for ourselves, we would burn out with the responsibilities of daily life,” he continued. “The melody and lyrics came to me while walking the Lenape Trail back to the campsite. I had a small classical guitar that I took with me most places, and I wrote and finished the song that night. I was so attached to that sound that this little guitar ended up being the instrument I recorded the basic tracks on.
