Submit window Please– A unique online magazine for new contemporary writing from the Caribbean – Published until April 30, 2025, 14 is open. See the explanation below.
Our 14th issue prompt comes from James Baldwin:
“Love takes off the mask we know we cannot live within, fearing that we will not live without it. Here, not just in a personal sense, but as a state of existence, or grace, it is not a child’s sense of America, but a harsh, universal sense of quest and boldness and growth.”
– James Baldwin, “On the Cross.” Letters from the area in my heart
for Please 14, encourage Baldwin to be involved in the vast vision of love and his quest concept. Do we infringe established rules of inclusion and exclusion in order to escape the concepts of the present and past determined by the culture of domination? What might this quest for the subject of bold self-awareness look like? And where is love? Welcome your exploration to challenge default assumptions about love in the Caribbean context or other ways, and draw pictures of what love might look like if we challenge the unknown.
If you’re new to Pree, please look at the content we’ve already published and understand the quality of writing we expect. Fun fact: We want you to receive as many prose submissions as we do poetry.
