The Automobile Council has been appointed as the new leader in carrying out the future growth of the UK automobile sector.
Steve Marsh, executive director of JLR’s vehicle program, has been appointed co-chair of the industry.
Marsh will work with Ministers Co-Chair Rep. Sarah Jones, Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, and the Bureau of Business and Trade.
The Council stressed that its role is more critical than ever, highlighting the technology transformation that is currently reshaping the automotive industry.
He added that industrial and government collaboration is essential as vehicles become more connected, automated, electricity and the dynamics of global trade continue to evolve.
The newly appointed chair will work with other senior leaders of the Council to strengthen the global competitiveness of the UK automotive sector and to enhance its ability to attract fresh investments, particularly in the development and protection of its supply chain.
Marsh joined JLR in 2022 and became executive director of the vehicle program in 2024.
With over 37 years of experience in the International Automobile Division, he has held positions such as Nissan’s US manufacturing division chief and vice president.
Marsh begins his career as an apprentice and supports filling the skills gap through professional development.
Jones, who was elected MP for Croydon West in 2017, was appointed Minister of Energy Security and Net Zero and the Bureau of Business and Trade in 2024.
Her responsibilities include green jobs, supply chains in the energy sector and advanced manufacturing.
