Polaris Dawn crew one week after launch
The four private astronauts participating in SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn program have completed two years of training for the mission, which will include the world’s first private spacewalk, and are just one week away from launch.
American billionaire Jared Isaacman, who previously worked with SpaceX to back the private spaceflight program Inspiration-4, will lead the Polaris Dawn mission, the first of three new spaceflight programs he has purchased from SpaceX.
Isaacman, pilot Scott Kidd-Poteet, and SpaceX chief space operations engineers Mission Specialists Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon arrived at the launch pad at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on August 19. The launch is scheduled for August 26 at 3:38 a.m. EDT (7:38 a.m. GMT)..
The mission, announced for 2022, will test SpaceX’s new spacesuits during a planned two-hour spacewalk during the five-day mission. Crew members spoke to reporters about the upcoming mission on August 19.

Doritos goes into space with Polaris Dawn
Polaris Dawn will be carrying a brand new snack into space when it launches on August 26th aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Resilience.
Doritos will be launching a brand new type of space-safe Zero Gravity Cool Ranch Doritos chips during commercial space flights. The limited-edition flavor, available for sale online, features an oil-based coating on Doritos’ classic powdered topping to keep it from floating away in zero gravity.
“The limitless possibilities of space inspire us to push the boundaries of what’s possible,” Chris Bellinger, chief creative officer, PepsiCo Foods North America, said in a statement. “This mission is a testament to our commitment to deliver bold experiences and flavors in the most unexpected places.”
