More snow is predicted to fall in London as it is expected to be the coldest night of winter in the UK, with temperatures expected to drop to -20C.
Liverpool and Aberdeen airports were forced to suspend flights on Tuesday morning as heavy rain, flooding and snow continue to disrupt travel and schools are closed.
The BBC reports that low temperatures in the Pennines are expected to drop to -20C on Thursday night.
It comes as a mass evacuation was ordered at a caravan park near Barrow upon Soar in Leicestershire on the River Soar, and the Environment Agency issued a major flood warning with a “danger to life”.
A man has died in the winter storm that has affected much of the country, with North Yorkshire Police saying the body pulled from floodwaters near the River Aire has been formally identified. The man’s next of kin is still being informed.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for northern and western Scotland, including the North and West Islands, which will remain in place until 12pm on Wednesday.
As of 11.10am on Tuesday, the Environment Agency had issued one life-threatening flood warning, 144 flood warnings and 228 flood warnings meaning potential flooding across England.
Coldest nights expected to drop well below freezing
BBC weather watchers said temperatures were expected to drop to between -16C and -20C on Thursday night.
The last time the UK recorded such low temperatures was on February 11, 2021, when temperatures dropped to -23C in Braemar, Aberdeenshire.

More snow possible in the south on Wednesday
Another front could move in from the southwest on Wednesday, bringing more snow and ice. a yellow warning It is now being introduced to cover this.
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: “Further rain, sleet and snow could move in from the south-west on Wednesday, potentially affecting parts of southern England.
“Not everyone within the warning area will be affected, but 2-5cm of snow is likely to accumulate quite widely. “Will this system sweep across the south of England, or will it miss us completely? It’s still a bit uncertain, but we’ll continue to assess this over the next day or two. Weather alerts may be updated, so it’s important to keep up to date with the forecast. .”

WATCH: Scotland’s daring mountain rescue
A mountaineer with deep cuts on his leg was rescued in the middle of a severe snowstorm.
Cairngorm MRT reported in X: “A couple who had planned to camp near Saddle, but whose condition had deteriorated, were rescued again after sending an SOS message from their mobile phone.
“After spotting the couple and warming them up a bit, they walked through difficult conditions to safety. By 1:30 a.m., everyone was safe.”

Cold weather forecast for Ireland
Ireland has raised its weather warning as the country faces “extremely cold weather”.
Temperatures are expected to plummet to -8C, with a status orange cold ice warning issued for most of the Republic of Ireland.
The advisory will apply from 8pm on Tuesday until 10am on Wednesday and will apply across the country, except for Donegal, Dublin, Louth and Wexford, Ireland’s National Weather Service Met Éireann said.
This will be followed by a further warning for all counties except Donegal from 6pm on Wednesday to 11am on Thursday.
This means a very cold night with widespread frost, ice and snow.
