Sleigh Bells unveils a new album with a ridiculously titled Banky Becky’s birthday boywill drop on April 4th Mom + Pop. Follow-up for 2021 Texis Includes previously released track “Wanna Start a Band?” and a new single “Banky Pop”this is a goofy bop of joy. It arrives in an accompanying video directed by Alex Ross Perry and starring Dylan Gerra. Check below and scroll through the album cover and track list.
“Banky Becky was the nickname for Liz, the dog Alexis, who passed away in December 2023,” producer/guitarist Derek Miller explained in a statement. “When she passed away, Alexis and I were talking about writing the national anthem for her. And then Alexis’ son Wilder was born, and he is a birthday boy. The title seems a bit ridiculous. You can hear it, but laughing at it is totally okay – a bit of context, it’s actually life and death. We’ve lost the person we love and we’ve won someone we love.”
“We wanted the truck to sound like it had the best moments of her life without the burden of self-consciousness,” Miller added the opener. “‘Bunky Pop’ informed the entire record, and Bunky Becky became a character woven into every song. We wanted to give her a friend, Roxette Ric, so we had a bit of autobiography and fiction. But I was able to play.”
