Rafael Nadal, along with Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Holger Ruhn, will make his final appearance before retirement at the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, starting October 16th. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports until the 19th.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion confirmed last week that he would end his illustrious tennis career after playing for Spain in next month’s Davis Cup final in Malaga.
Before that, he will compete in an expensive event in Saudi Arabia this week, where he will line up alongside some of the best players in men’s tennis.
What is it?
The Six Kings Slam is a three-day exhibition tennis tournament featuring six big-name players.
As this is a non-ATP sanctioned event, players will not be able to earn ranking points.
Each of the six participants is guaranteed a minimum prize of £1.12 million, with the winner taking home a record £4.5 million – almost double the prize money for a Grand Slam winner.
When and where is Six Kings Slam held?
The Six Kings Slam tournament will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from October 16 to 19, 2024.
October 16: Daniil Medvedev vs Jannik Sinner, Holger Ruhn vs Carlos Alcaraz
October 17: Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev or Jannik Sinner, Rafael Nadal vs. Holger Ruhn or Carlos Alcaraz.
October 19th: 3rd place match/final
Who plays who?
The world’s No. 1 sinner will face 2021 US Open champion Medvedev in the opening match on October 16, with Dane Loon set to take on 21-year-old Spanish sensation Alcaraz in the second match.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, will face the winner of Sinner vs. Medvedev, while Nadal will wait for the winner of Loon vs. Alcaraz.
Will this be Nadal’s last appearance?
The 38-year-old, who won 22 Grand Slam titles including 14 at Roland Garros, announced his impending retirement in an emotional video message last week.
Nadal will play in the Six Kings Slam before his brilliant career in Malaga comes to an emotional end.
This will be Nadal’s first appearance since the Paris Olympics, when he formed a team.
Carlos Alcaraz is the young successor to the hit doubles pair.
Djokovic and Nadal both received byes in the first round and will play their opening match on October 17th.
