At least a foot of water flooded Connecticut on Sunday night, turning otherwise peaceful country roads into disaster scenes due to severe flooding.
The rainfall was far more than usual for a summer storm, trapping residents in their cars, restaurants and homes in parts of Connecticut and New York, and requiring multiple rescues by emergency responders.

Firefighters led local residents across a metal bridge to nearby higher ground as debris, including metal trash cans, flew at high speed through the surrounding floodwaters.
According to the Governor of Connecticut, Ned LamontMore than 100 people were evacuated by search and rescue teams on Sunday evening amid severe weather, which continued into Monday morning.

The rains have already claimed lives… The bodies of two Oxford women were recovered on Monday.
According to the fire chief Scott PelletierThe first victim was swept away by a flooded river and died despite firefighters’ attempts to rescue him.
The second victim reportedly got out of her car to grab onto a nearby sign, but she too was engulfed by the raging waters.
Hurricane Ernesto was strengthening in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday night, but that didn’t stop it from bringing heavy rains to the East Coast. William Sillett He likened the storm in the Connecticut area to an oncoming train and told The Associated Press that “perfect conditions” for severe thunderstorms were causing excessive rainfall and flash flooding.
Due to the severity of the storm, Governor Lamont plans to request federal disaster funds to help the state recover.
