Tre Johnson broke one of Kevin Durant’s records in Texas. Now, Johnson will chase after Durant as a player who spent just a year with the Longhorns before entering the NBA.
Johnson, the Southeastern Conference’s Newcomer of the Year, announced he declared the draft on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-6 guard led the SEC in points per game (19.9) – the sixth freshman to lead the conference in that category – led the minutes per game (34.7) and also averaged 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He shot 39.7% from the 3-point range. It’s the second best meeting.
On February 26th, Johnson tallied 39 points, breaking Durant’s program record for most points by the game’s freshmen.
Johnson helped Texas finish with a 19-16 record and lost to Xavier in the first four parts of the NCAA Tournament.
