MANILA, Philippines – The Converge, under new leadership and despite the absence of first-overall pick Justin Baltazar, kicked off their campaign with a commanding 127-95 win over newcomer Terra Firma in Group A of the PBA Governors Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Import Scottie Hopson scored 46 points, including a perfect 3-of-3 from the 4-point line, and the Fiverxers won under interim coach Franco Atienza, active consultant Rajko Toroman and assistant Charles Tiu.
Alec Stockton added 21 points, 13 of them in the third quarter, and after leading 53-49 at halftime, he conspired with Hopson to extend Terra Firma’s lead, briefly leading by 33 points at the half.

The FiberX team is sharing the provisional lead in the group with last season’s Philippine Cup winners Meralco Bolts and defending champions TNT Tropang Giga.
Shaunie Winston had 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Justin Arana added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Terra Firma’s loss marred the debuts of Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle, who were acquired from Barangay Ginebra in exchange for young players Steven Holt and Isaac Go.

Pringle added 19 points, two extra points, four rebounds and seven assists, while Standhardinger had 17 points and six rebounds.
Import Antonio Hester made his PBA return in place of Brandon Edwards, who injured his ACL during preseason preparations, and recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
