San Miguel Beer survived a late revolt by Converge to win 102-95 in Game 1 of the PBA Governors Cup best-of-5 quarterfinal series at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Thursday.
Coming off a sure win, the Beermen cut the lead to 16 points with less than four minutes left and then cut it to four points in the final moments, but the FiberXers failed to capitalize on opportunities to get even closer and even They couldn’t even tie the game.

New signing EJ Anosike had 28 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in his first game, replacing Jordan Adams who injured his hamstring late in the group stage.
Anosike is the nephew of former PBA import Julius Nwosu and cousin of La Salle’s Henry Agunanne, who played on the Nigeria national team.

Mar Fajardo also contributed to the Biermann cause in June with 25 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks.

Game 2 of the series will be played Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Import Jalen Jones had 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Justin Arana also scored 20 points early in a recent playoff battle with Fajardo, but the Converge lost in the series opener. It didn’t come close.
Beerman led 97-81 with 3:44 left, but the Fiber Xers closed the gap with just two points while scoring 14 points.
JL Delos Santos’ triple cut Converge within four points at 99-95 with less than a minute left, but it turned out to be the FiberXers’ closest chance to level with the red-hot Beermen.
