The San Francisco 49ers have appeared in the Super Bowl twice in the past five seasons and have appeared in the NFC Championship game twice in two of the remaining three seasons, but are in danger of missing the playoffs altogether this year. There is.
San Francisco has a 5-6 record through 12 weeks, with its most recent loss being a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers, who were without starting quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy’s shoulder injury is the latest in a long line for the in-form Niners, as key players Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel have suffered various injuries throughout the season. All of them were out at the time, including No. 1 receiver Brandon. Aiyuk is out this year.
Despite the situation, the 49ers are one spot away from first in the division, along with the Seattle Seahawks (6-5), Arizona Cardinals (6-5), Los Angeles Rams (5-6), and San Francisco. Only victory remains. They are playing together with a chance to qualify for the postseason.
Will the 49ers head to Buffalo next to take on the 9-2 Bills on Sunday Night Football? Sky Sports NFL Live Broadcast Monday from 1:20am – Who will ultimately win from the group?
Neil Reynolds, Jeff Reinbold, Phoebe Schechter Inside the Huddle Podcast I told them what they thought…
“A player was knocked out of the Niners.”
Neil Reynolds of Sky Sports: “The Niners are 5-6 heading into the Bills, who are 9-2 coming off a bye week. It feels like these teams are on two very different paths right now.
“There was a shot of Kyle Shanahan. [during the loss in Green Bay]he looked very stressed, like he had aged this year.
“And I was watching the game thinking, ‘Where’s Fred Warner?’ But at the same time, I feel like the current 49ers staff has been knocked out.
“Losing Brock Purdy felt like the last straw. It was a really bad night for the Niners. Their body language and the way they played would have been alarming.”
“But they’re still in it…Seattle, at 6-5 and at the top of their division, there’s really nothing between these teams.
“They just have to hang in there and try to get over the line. Once they’re inside, we know their weapons are dangerous.”
“It’s too early to write an obituary for the 49ers.”
Jeff Reinbold of Sky Sports: “I think it’s too early to write an obituary on them, but definitely this team has to get healthy first.
“When you look at the huge list of players they released, you’re talking about key contributors. Trent Williams is gone, Nick Bosa is gone, you can see the whole team right away.
“If it doesn’t get away from them, if they don’t keep doing poorly until they get healthy, they have a chance.
“George Kittle, to me, give Kittle the best tight end in the league right now. I think he’s got something, he just keeps making play after play. .
“In that division, when you look at the 49ers, the Rams, the Seahawks, the Cardinals, it’s still anybody’s game, it’s everybody’s race, and what’s more, they have to fight each other to the end.
“I think the team that gets healthy and gets hot at the end is going to make the playoffs.”
“McCaffrey wasn’t as explosive as we expected him to be.”
Sky Sports’ Phoebe Schechter: “I don’t know where we put the 49ers right now. We’ve said it several times, but they’re really in the middle of the pack in terms of what they’re doing.
“Even with Christian McCaffrey, he’s not as explosive as we expected him to be. With the cold in Buffalo and some sort of lingering Achilles issue added to the mix, I don’t think he’ll be able to break out. We had some really big runs, and that’s what we relied on as a team.
“I think the Bills are in a much better position now, especially coming into the bye week, especially at home and potentially a snow game. All of those factors and variables really favor the Bills.”
