If you’re looking for smart technology for the non-tech savvy, want to buy your child their first smartphone, or simply want to save money on a no-frills device, two new products from Samsung are worth checking out. Please.
Samsung will bring two popular low-cost devices, a smartphone and a fitness tracker, to the U.S. for the first time on January 9th.

The Galaxy Fit3 debuted in select markets in February 2024 and quickly gained a fan base with a price tag of $59.99. If you’re new to fitness trackers and want to know how much you can save, our current list of the best fitness trackers includes devices ranging from $160 to $450.
Like other fitness trackers, the Fit3 is essentially a basic smartwatch. It features a 1.6-inch screen, tracks over 100 workouts, provides metrics such as stress levels, blood oxygen levels, heart rate, and is IP68 water and dust resistant. When worn overnight, the Fit3 also provides sleep insights such as sleep tracking and snoring detection, and has built-in fall detection, which also gives you the option to call emergency services on a nearby phone.
Samsung says the battery will last up to 13 days with normal use, but that’s with the “always-on” display and most tracking features turned off. Most online reports estimate battery life in real-world usage to be 3-4 days depending on settings.
The Fit3 may not have all the bells and whistles of a fancy fitness tracker, but if you’re just looking for deeper features than your phone’s built-in tracking, it’s a great value for the price. It should be fascinating.
A 6.7-inch smartphone, the Galaxy A16 5G, will also be available for $199.99. It features a triple-lens camera setup with a 50MP main camera sensor, 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and 2MP macro lens. Of course, it’s not as good as a flagship phone, but it’s good enough if you want to take basic shots. The phone comes with 4GB of RAM, which is enough for daily tasks, and it’s IP54 rated so it can withstand some splashes.

But perhaps this device’s biggest selling point is the software updates. Samsung promises “six generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades, and six years of security updates.” For comparison, Google’s latest midrange phone offered seven years of updates for a price of $499. Like the Fit3, the A16’s specs aren’t anything special, but it offers impressive value.
