The central theme of the 2025-2026 cohort is “Related Bolice.” [A PhD in related disciplines required.] Researchers must reside in Centro during their tenure of the award. explanation: The Puerto Rico Research Center is inviting applications for the 2025-2026 cohort of the Centro Research Associates Program. The programme invites scholars, writers and faculty members in a cohort model that addresses the annual theme. (August 2025 – July 2026). Research Associates must spend time working on specific research projects at Centro and participate in weekly seminar meetings, additional workshops and public events.

El Centro de Estudios Puertoriqueños— Centro – The Puerto Rican Research Center is an exclusive university-based laboratory, library and archive dedicated to the Puerto Rican experiences in the United States. It was founded in 1973 by a coalition of students, faculty and activists to support New York City University’s fledgling field of Puerto Rican studies and to promote access to higher education by people of Puerto Rican descent. At the heart of these founders’ mission was the need for academic analysis of Puerto Rican presence in the United States and the systematic forces that conquered and alienated them within American society. We are now expanding our efforts to collect, preserve and provide access to archives and library resources that document Puerto Rican history and culture. We do so in a broad and comprehensive way, encouraging interdisciplinary research on new research and phenomena that are not traditionally visible to researchers, and emerging issues that are dramatically changing the way we live today and the way we live today.
2025-2026 theme, Bolikia of relationshipinvites researchers to engage in other racial and ethnic groups and the phenomenon of community formation in the Bolikua Archipelago and Diaspolic. Bolichia has developed and maintained political, social, kinship, labor and spiritual practices for many years, along with multiple communities across the United States and beyond. We are interested in works that examine the experiences and influence of migration, language, assimilation, cultural and linguistic resilience, and the relationship between Puerto Ricans and other racial and ethnic groups.
This group is asked to consider Bolikua relations with Black people, Indigenous peoples, Asia, Latin, the Caribbean, the Middle East and/or other communities. The Bolichian theme in relations corresponds to the living experiences and history of Puerto Ricans in the archipelago and diaspora, and is based on existing important scholarships, whilst engaging in new directions within and outside Puerto Rican studies. Overall, this theme is: What can we learn from the complex and overlapping relationships Puerto Ricans have in their global regions and in specific cities, sites and communities? What do we owe each other when we strive for political and cultural decolonization, self-determination and liberation, and anti-racism in our communities? These and other questions will guide discussion during the seminars over the past year. Here we explore the various uses of archives and explore how these spaces, collections, and practices can be transformed through decolonial, feminist and queer lenses.
