New parental controls and insights coming soon
Dear parents,
Next month, we will be making a series of important changes to your child’s account ____________.
About Roblox accounts with parental privileges
Next month, we’re changing the way parents can control their kids’ experiences on Roblox by introducing Roblox accounts with parental permissions. By linking your account to your child’s account, you can view and update your child’s parental controls from your own device. Parents can also access insights into their child’s Roblox usage, including daily screen time and friends on the platform.
As a result of these changes, starting next month, parents will no longer be able to set a parental PIN, use account restrictions, or receive account-related notifications to their email address. Instead, you should use an account with parental privileges. The existing verified parent email address on the child account will continue to be used for account recovery. Settings previously set using the parent PIN will not be changed, but future updates will require an account with parent permissions.
As always, if users are interested in adding an extra layer of security to their account, they can do the following: two-factor authentication.
Updated content maturity settings
As we shared with the community in July, to give parents and users a clearer understanding of the type of content available on Roblox, we’re basing experiences on the type of content users can expect in the experience, rather than based on age. We’ll start labeling them soon. . Experience Guidelines have been renamed to Content Labels, and you can now set limits on the types of content your children can access through the Content Maturity Settings in Parental Controls.
New default settings for users under 13
As part of Roblox’s commitment to safety, we’re also updating certain default settings for our youngest users. Starting next month, users under 13 will need parental permission to access certain chat features. Users under 9 years of age will also need parental permission to access experiences with medium content maturity. This may include things like moderate violence and moderate crude humor.
If you and your child haven’t previously changed your child’s settings, your child’s settings will update when your child reaches a certain age. You and your child will be notified in advance of these updates.
We will provide more information about updating these settings when the changes take effect next month.
next step
To continue receiving notifications about your child’s account related to spending and other important activities, you must set up a Roblox account with parental permissions and link it to your child’s account. Once these changes take effect, your child will receive a notification prompting them to add a linked parent account and an email with instructions.
Since its inception, Roblox has focused on building safety features and tools into the design of its products. We continue to explore different ways to update Parental Controls to make them even more useful for parents.
