Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has confirmed that the organization is suing Jesse Love, driver of last weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Rockingham Speedway.
Love initially won the North Carolina Educational Lottery 250 on Saturday, but his #2 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet failed post-race inspections, and NASCAR overturned the results and handed him a disqualification for violating the rules.
On Monday (April 21) Richard Childress’ team challenged NASCAR’s decision in a post on their official X account.
“Richard Childress Racing appeals to NASCAR’s decision to disqualify the second team’s victory from the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Rockingham Speedway,” reads the RCR post.
Jesse Love, who first crossed the finish line at Rockingham, was disqualified due to a rear suspension violation seen in the standard post-race inspection process. NASCAR said that Love violated section 14.14.2.i-5.h of the Series Rules Book.
As a result of the disqualification, the #2 RCR driver was forced to finish 37th at 38 Dreamer Field, while JR Motorsports’ Sammy Smith crossed the finish line in second place.
The date of the appeal has not been announced yet, but it is possible that we heard it ahead of this Saturday’s Xfinity race at the Talladega Superspeedway. Three members of the National Motorsports Appeals panel hear the appeal and their decision will be final.
RCR Driver respects Rocking Gum’s victory over his girlfriend’s late sister before DQ’D
In a post-race interview at Rockingham before being later disqualified, RCR’s Jesse Love dedicated her victory to his girlfriend, sister Jessica, who died of skin cancer in 2024. He urged his fans to take their health seriously.
Talked to NASCAR reporter Kim Kuhn, the RCR driver said:
“My girlfriend’s sister passed away yesterday about a year ago. It’s really sunny today. She died of skin cancer within two weeks when she discovered it. Check your skin today or tomorrow, or next week.
Love, 20 Years Old, is a promising talent, the 2024 NASCAR XFINITY series Sunoco Rookie of the Year. Rockingham’s victory marked the second victory of the season, with the first victory coming at the season opening event at Daytona International Speedway.
Love has been competing full-time with the Richard Childress team in the Xfinity series since last year, showing strong performance this year. He currently ranks fourth in the points table with 287 points.
On Saturday, April 26th, we will then catch Action Injesse Love at Talladega Super Speedway.
