Known for creating profound artistic expression from simple and often overlooked aspects of everyday life, Kejan Sun is an artist who draws inspiration from the everyday world. He transforms mundane objects like chairs into vessels of human emotion, interaction and memory. At the same time, he captures the powerful cycles of nature. Through three series, Sun explores the complexities of the human experience. Sheet series, Silenceand spring — Revealing deeper layers of existence through both tranquil stillness and chaotic transformation.

Sun Sheet This series is a collection of paintings that portray chairs as more than just functional objects. In Sun’s view, chairs are silent witnesses to human life, embracing solitude, presence and absence. Each chair in this series has its own story embedded in its very form. San’s chairs are used in a variety of settings, but all share a quiet, powerful presence as silent observers. Each chair is carefully painted like a narrator, narrating a fleeting moment. The weight of waiting is palpable as the empty chairs seem to carry an oppressive silence, echoing past conversations in the soft shadows cast on their surfaces. The tension between presence and absence forms the core of the series, as each chair symbolizes the figure of the person who once sat there and the emptiness it has left behind. This contrast invites the viewer to contemplate the deeper stories hidden beneath the seemingly mundane objects.
