Former Turkish police officer Yusuf Dikets has taken the 2024 Olympics in Paris by storm, winning a silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed event. But what’s even more remarkable is his unconventional approach: Competing without any equipment, with one hand casually tucked in his pocket, he’s proving that sometimes less is more.
Dikec, 51, went against the norm in competitive shooting, where competitors typically wear an array of specialized gear including visors, earplugs and high-tech glasses. Instead, he wore just regular glasses and earplugs for hearing protection.

“You don’t get success by putting your hands in your pockets,” he told other news outlets.

The medal win for Dikek and her teammate Seval Ilayda Tarkhan was Turkey’s first Olympic shooting achievement.
The 51-year-old finished 13th in the individual competition, ending his participation in the Paris Olympics.
Dickek is already looking forward to the 2028 Olympics.
“Next I want to win gold in Los Angeles,” he said.
He seems to be enjoying his newfound fame, reposting a video of a collection of Turkish memes about himself on his Instagram page.
Dickek also won a gold medal in the 2011 World Cup Series.
