Utah is working to finalise a new contract with coach Jerrod Calhoun as rumors swirl about his interest from other schools.
CBS Sports reported Tuesday that the deal will mark Calhoun second in the Mountain West Conference, behind San Diego State’s Brian Dutcher, who took the team to the NCAA Championship Game in 2023.
Dutcher won $2.4 million in the 2024-25 season, while Calhoun made $1 million, according to the USA Today pay database for college basketball coaches.
In his first season with Logan, Calhoun led the Aggies to a 26-8 record.
Calhoun was rumoured as a strong candidate for a vacant job in West Virginia. There, he was on staff under former coach Bob Huggins in 2008-12.
Utah State has become a coach Stepping Stone’s job, and the Aggies leadership clearly didn’t want to move to a new coach again. Calhoun was the fourth coach of five seasons.
Craig Smith worked for three seasons (2018-21) before departing for Utah. Newly hired Virginia coach Ryan Odom followed him over the next two seasons before he left for VCU. And Danny Sprinkle spent one season with Logan (2023-24) before taking over in Washington.
