Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is expected to miss several weeks with a right hamstring injury, ESPN reported Thursday.
Maxey was injured in Wednesday’s 110-98 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. He scored 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting before being ejected in the fourth quarter.
Maxey, who signed a five-year contract extension worth up to $203.85 million in July, is averaging a team-high in points (27.6) and assists (3.9) through seven games this season. He has led the struggling 76ers (1-6) in scoring five times this season.
Maxey, who was named an All-Star for the first time in the 2023-24 season, was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player and also won the league’s Sportsmanship Award that season.
Maxey, 24, is averaging 18.4 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 273 career games (200 starts) since being selected by the 76ers with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.
