Iga Swiatek remained on the course for his fourth consecutive title at the Qatar Open, beating Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals.
In a recurring final in Doha last year, Swiatek recovered from injury in the second set, claiming a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Swiatek became the first woman to have the longest winning streak at the Qatar Open since the tournament began with 15 consecutive wins in 2001.
“I’m so happy, I’m extremely proud of myself,” Paul said. “The second set felt like she had leveled her up so I had to do that too.”
Rybakina started the year with a head-to-head 4-2 advantage with Swiatek, but after following a victory in the United Cup last month, World Number 2 achieved another success, I’ve reached level.
Swiatek started the contest much better, but Rybakina began gaining traction with strong serves and ground strokes at the start of the second set, opening a 4-2 lead.
She was unable to maintain her advantage and Sweet regained a break before she could win when Rivakina double-faulted.
The second seeds were combined by informed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the last four.
