On Sunday, President Donald Trump announced that Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr will become the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Carr, the FCC’s top Republican, has been a vocal advocate of protecting free speech and fighting regulatory overreach.
President Trump shared the news on Truth Social, saying:
“I am pleased to announce that Secretary Brandon Carr will become Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Commissioner Carr currently serves as the FCC’s Republican Executive. I first nominated Commissioner Kerr to the FCC in 2017, and he has served in the U.S. Senate for three years. His current term ends in 2029, and given his outstanding accomplishments, I do not intend to appoint him as permanent chair.”
“Commissioner Carr has been a free speech fighter who has fought against regulatory laws that stifle Americans’ freedoms and stifle the economy. He has had a tremendous impact on America’s job creators and innovators. The FCC will ensure results for rural America by ending the onslaught of regulations.
Commissioner Carr has been with the FCC since 2012 and also served as an advisor to then-FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. Earlier in his career, Commissioner Kerr worked as an attorney specializing in appellate, litigation, and regulatory matters. Chief Justice Kerr previously clerked for Judge Dennis Shedd on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Secretary Kerr attended Georgetown University for his undergraduate studies and received his Juris Doctor degree with honors from Catholic University Columbus School of Law. Editor of the Catholic University Law Review. I would like to congratulate Chairman Brandon Carr on his excellent work. Lead us to a great future, Brandon!
On Friday, Brendan Kerr sent a letter to tech giants Meta, Google, Microsoft and Apple, calling them out for the central role they have played in the censorship cartel.
The four-page letter accuses tech giants Facebook, Apple, Google and Microsoft of participating in what he called “inappropriate conduct.”
“Big tech companies have silenced the American people simply by exercising their First Amendment rights,” Carr wrote. Kerr said the tech giants are “working with so-called media monitors and others to defund, strip revenue, or otherwise drive out of business news organizations and organizations that dare to deviate from the approved narrative.” “I’m doing it,” he accused.
Carr also talked about how big tech is “part of a censorship cartel that includes not only technology and social media companies, but also advertising, marketing, so-called ‘fact-checking’ organizations, and the Biden-Harris administration itself.” he pointed out.
Brendan Carr is serious about defending the First Amendment on behalf of Americans.
Mr. Carr expressed his gratitude to President Trump for X’s promotion.
