The Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing a file of evidence relating to a Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape.
The man, who is in his 30s, is accused of sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have now forwarded the file to the CPS and the player remains under investigation while inquiries continue.
The soccer player has denied the allegations.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The Met Police are investigating following a number of reports of suspected sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023.”
“The full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives continue to work with prosecutors.
“Those who came forward to police continue to receive support from staff at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.”
The player, whose name has not been disclosed, was first arrested in July 2022 on suspicion of raping a woman in her 20s.
While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of raping a second woman in April 2021 and June of the same year.
The Metropolitan Police Department said it would not take any further action regarding the incident, which allegedly occurred in June 2021, as the relevant laws were not in force at the time.
In February 2023, police interviewed a man on suspicion of a sex offense that allegedly occurred in Barnet, north London, in February 2022.
Police said this relates to a third complainant and was reported in July 2022.
Officers interviewed the Premier League footballer again under caution in November 2024.
The CPS will now decide how to proceed based on evidence files provided by the Metropolitan Police. It is unclear when a decision will be made.
