A new poll shows that several Americans have felt that the country’s immigration policy has improved since President Donald Trump took office.
Voice votes for Center Square voters 47% of those surveyed, released Thursday, said they said their federal government’s policies on immigration and border security have “better.”
Polls found 13% said there was no change, while 8% were unsure.
The same poll found that 42% of registered voters say Trump’s border policy is “just right,” while 8% say it is “too soft.” Meanwhile, 46% say their policy is “too strict.”
Audio votes for Center Square voters, held on noble predictive insights from April 15-18, quized 2,527 registered voters. Of these respondents, 1,089 are Republicans, 1,187 are Democrats, and 251 are “true independents,” which are independents who are not leaning towards one party. The Center Square Voter Audio Poll is one of only six national follow-ups in the United States. It was scheduled to coincide with Trump’s 100th day inauguration on Wednesday, April 30th.
In particular, as the border crisis subsided, the focus on American immigration declined. A Center Square poll found that only 26% of registered voters cite immigration as one of the top three most important issues. During last year’s presidential election, voters cited the border crisis as inflation as their biggest problem.
In March 2024, Center Square polls found that 44% of Americans cited illegal immigration as one of the top three concerns.
“One of our most impressive findings: immigration has gone from top to second tier issue,” the research director of Noble Predictive Insights, which conducted the poll, told Centre Square. “People trust Trump on border security. They think he’s doing a solid job, so they focus on other issues with less about the border. In an interesting way, Trump can take his best issues off the table. If people think they’ve solved the border crisis, they should not think about it.
Trump has launched a nationwide deportation effort led by border border Tom Homan, but the surge in legal agenda has threatened to slow or even stop that progress.
“In the first 50 days of the Trump administration, Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) has made 32,809 enforcement arrests,” the Immigration Customs Enforcement said in March. “To put this figure in perspective, ICE enforcement and removal operations have created 33,242 of these massive arrests throughout 2024.”

In addition to deportation, Trump has taken steps to prevent illegal foreigners from accepting federal benefits and closing borders.
Illegal immigration at the Southern border has plummeted since Trump took office.
“Trump is most popular when it comes to action against immigration,” Byler said. “He cares more about this than most people. People can know. This is especially true of border security. He understands where the people are in ideas like walls and illegal immigration. And as CEO, he can make many changes without fighting Congress.
Immigration was the biggest problem for the president of the Campaign Trail. He repeatedly promised to carry out the biggest deportation effort in history, and denounced his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, for her work on immigration during the Biden administration, where illegal immigration exploded to unprecedented levels.

Trump is also a massive amount of money on the transgender issue, with multiple claims that federal government policies on the issue have been improved. It was another major campaign issue for Republicans, with Republicans criticizing Democrats for allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports.
Trump gets worse on other issues. For example, both tariffs and freedom of speech are areas in which respondents say the situation has worsened.
The survey has an error of +/- 2.0%.
