On Tuesday night, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told CNN that a convicted Donald Trump would clearly “I am afraidButtigieg was tapped to debate Vice President Kamala Harris as the Republican nominee for president, and when asked for details, Buttigieg explained that a debate between Harris and Trump would reveal two things, both of which would be bad news for the Republican Party.
“As she has stated very forcefully, she will remind everyone of her record as a prosecutor who has protected people from people like Donald Trump,” Buttigieg said. CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. “I think she’s been very effective at reminding the public that issue after issue is coming up and that the American people already agree with her and the Democrats.”
“Americans are for Democrats on taxes and tax cuts for the wealthy, but they’re against Donald Trump,” he continued. “They’re for Kamala Harris, the Democrat, but they’re against Donald Trump because he’s taking away the right to choose in this country. And gun violence, and marriage, the list goes on. And I think she’s in a perfect position to remind Americans of that fact.”
For now, the only person who’s happy about Ms. Harris’ candidacy is probably President Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, who will likely breathe a sigh of relief that he won’t be invited to debate the vice president.
