Google is reportedly working on a new Android API for something called Rich Oncoming Notices. This will allow apps to display at-a-glance information in the status bar, similar to live activity in Apple’s Dynamic Island on iPhone. According to the reporter: who discovered the code for the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 release. It’s likely to work a lot like the time tracker you see during calls today. A little text appears in a bubble at the top of the display, which you can tap to open the app and show more details.
Author Android permissionsRahman said the API “allows apps to create chips with their own text and background colors that appear in the status bar.” This could be especially useful for things like transportation updates, allowing users to track relevant information like departure times and Uber ETAs while using other apps. However, this feature is not yet finalized and may take some time before it actually appears. Rahman predicts it will arrive in Android 16.
