Ohio State women’s basketball coach Kevin McGough faces drunk driving charges after police said he was parked in her front yard in Dublin, Ohio last week.
On Tuesday, authorities confirmed McGough’s arrest on May 6 for operating the vehicle while drunk.
The incident report released Tuesday said Dublin officials were in a Toyota SUV, partially parked on his lawn, with 55-year-old McGough.
Another driver called police to report that he was driving the vehicle recklessly and hitting several curbs, officials said.
Corresponding officers conducted several outdoor sobriety tests, including asking McGuff to say the alphabet from D to R.
“Kevin was just saying “D” and couldn’t recite any other letters,” he read a police report obtained by Columbus’ dispatch.
McGuff refused to have a Breathalyzer test, was taken into custody and charged with OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was released from custody of his wife about an hour later.
The Ohio State athletics department said it was aware of the arrest and “we are closely monitoring the situation.”
“This is an ongoing, personal legal issue and the department will share additional information at the right time,” a school spokesperson said.
McGuff has a record of 276-113 since taking over in Ohio in 2013. The Buckeyes have reached the NCAA Tournament eight times under leadership, including 2024-25, which scored a 26-7 record. He was the Big Ten Coach of the Year from 2023-24.
