A Dan Crowley double, plus goals from Alasana Jatta and Jody Jones, gave Notts County a convincing 4-1 home victory over Grimsby to take the League Two spot.
Crawley nearly gave the home team the lead with a shot that broke through the opposition’s midfield, but goalkeeper Jordan Wright kept it out.
Notts took an early lead and playmaker Crowley was once again involved when he crossed from just inside the penalty area and Jatta tipped the ball into the goal for his second goal of the season after just six minutes.
Crowley scored his second nine minutes later, his first of the season.
The referee added six minutes before half-time and Jones scored for the second game in a row to make it three points from two for the Magpies.
Grimsby turned the tide of the game when Harvey Rogers scored just before half-time to make the score 3-1 at the end of the first half.
Twelve minutes after the restart, Notts County made it four when Crawley’s shot evaded Wright’s defence and hit the goal for his second goal of the day.
Grimsby gained momentum in the second half and tried hard to mount a comeback late on, but the final whistle blew with the game ending 4-1, leaving the visitors in 16th place and the home team in 4th place.
