Donald Trump made a big production from tips not to tax while campaigning for the president in 2024.
The reality of Trump’s governance has become a harsh view as a new report from a fair wage found at least 1.2 million restaurant workers lose health insurance due to Medicaid’s Republican cuts.
According to a fair wage Report:
33% of tip restaurant workers in fair wage states received Medicaid, while 37% of tip restaurant workers in diving wage states received Medicaid. The survey found that 32% of tip restaurant workers in fair wage states and 34% of tip restaurant workers in submarine wage countries had no health insurance.

To determine how many workers could be affected by the requirement to work 80 hours a month to receive Medicaid, we looked at restaurants and hourly census data that analyzed one fair wage and looked at the percentages reported working less than 21 hours a week. OFW found that 30% of advanced workers and 32% of restaurant workers work less than 21 hours a week. This indicates that around 850,000 workers will lose Medicaid benefits. This will total 1.22 million workers. This means that 45% of current Medicaid enrollees in the cutting-edge restaurant occupation will lose this insurance.
…
The current Congressional Budget Settlement Bill both cut millions of Medicaid benefits and provide “no tax on tips” to cutting edge workers, as clearly provided to sloping workers. However, one fair wage proved that 66% of leading workers would not benefit from a “no tax on tips” claim. The proposed “no tax on tips” law only benefits advanced workers in traditionally inclined positions within the foodservice industry, so only around 1.17 million workers will see the tax credit. This means 50,000 workers are fewer than losing Medicaid under the current proposal.
In other words, taxes on tips are not workers’ health care. Two-thirds of cutting-edge workers will not benefit from change, and many of them will lose their health insurance.
Trump has campaigned to cut your taxes. Instead, he’s stealing your health care. This steals the bait and switch that Trump pulled and why many Americans today are angry with this administration today.
