Neon’s latest trick in the scare tactics is releasing an audio recording of Maika Monroe’s actual heart rate the first time she saw Nicolas Cage play the role of a serial killer.
Sure, it’s a big deal when Monroe’s FBI agent finally comes face to face with her long-sought target, and some of the palpitations may have come from the pressure of appearing in a tense, pivotal scene opposite an Oscar winner, but we have to guess that part of the excitement also came from him just being a painful, unpleasant character. As writer-director Osgood Perkins explained in an interview with io9, he was actually Long legs‘The marketing campaign said that Monroe and Cage only actually star in one scene together (the one excerpted above), and that the scene was meant to highlight the differences not only in their characters but also in their acting styles.
