The lake that supplies Mumbai with drinking water is at 38.47 per cent full, according to data released by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
As of 6 am on July 18, the total storage in the seven reservoirs is 5,56,781 million litres. On this day in 2023, the available storage was 35.70% (5,16,698 million litres) and in 2022, it was 84.41% (12,21,783 million litres).
The seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai are Vatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi, located in Mumbai, Thane and Nashik districts. The total usable storage capacity required to supply water to the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region is 14,473.63 million litres.
As per the latest BMC data, the water level in Tansa has risen to 73.49 per cent. Modak Sagar is at 57.61 per cent. The effective storage in Middle Vaitarna is 35.19 per cent and Tulsi Lake is at 85.50 per cent of its full capacity. The current storage in Vihar Lake is 57.38 per cent. In Upper Vaitarna, 8.43 per cent of the storage capacity is available.
