The Brihanmumbai power supply and transport business has secured approval from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for its proposal to raise bus fares, a senior official said on Monday.
If cleared by Mumbai’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the fare increases will double the lowest ticket price to Rs 12 and Rs 12 in the first 5 km and the best non-air conditioned bus, respectively.
Cash-bound transport also attempted to remove the current fare cap of Rs 20, Rs 25, outside AC buses on travelling over 20 km, officials told PTI.
“Bhushan Gagrani, BMC Commissioner and Association Administrator, has given approval to Best’s proposed fare hike to go to MMRTA for final approval,” the official said, adding that BMC’s Go-Ahead is a must-have first step.
The best bus considered the artery of Mumbai’s public transport system is the lifeline of over 300,000 commuters in the city and its extended suburbs.
