(Reuters) – Kentucky State Police reported a “active shooter” occurred near Interstate 75 in London, Kentucky, on Saturday evening, with “multiple people” shot in traffic.
According to multiple media reports, the incident began about nine miles from London, when officers were called just before 6pm (10am GMT) to reports of multiple vehicles being shot at on Interstate 75 in Laurel County. The shooting was reported to have come from a wooded area or overpass.
It was not immediately clear how many people were shot or what the condition of those injured was. Police said no suspects had been arrested.

“The suspect has not been arrested at this time and we urge residents to remain indoors,” Kentucky State Police Trooper Scotty Pennington wrote on Facebook.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear posted on X: “We are aware of a shooting that occurred on I-75 in Laurel County, Kentucky. Please stay out of the area. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”
He also called on residents to “pray for all involved.”
Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called in to assist Kentucky State Police and local police, the agency said in a statement on X, calling it a “serious incident.”
London is a small city of about 8,000 people located about 90 miles south of Lexington near Daniel Boone National Forest.
The shooting came just days after a mass shooting at a high school in Winder, Georgia, left two teachers and two students dead and nine injured.
