Mike Johnson has no choice but to lose two votes in Friday’s election for Speaker of the House of Representatives, and has already lost one. Congressman Thomas Massie declared he would not support Speaker Johnson, and while trying to project confidence, Speaker Johnson spoke about “Fox and Friends” with an oozing sense of desperation.

After discussing the terrorist attacks in New Orleans, Mr. Johnson was asked: “Mr. Speaker, let me change gears a little bit. Tomorrow, you have the right to vote as Speaker. What can you tell me? How confident are you that you can get the votes you need to keep the gavel? ?”

Chairman Johnson responded:

I’m going to get this done. Look, I’m humbled and honored to have President Trump’s support for this role. I’ll talk more about that role later. We also have support from conservatives and leaders across the Republican Party. .

All my colleagues support us and we will get through this. Look, what we’re talking about this morning shows that we live in very serious times. We can’t afford palace theater here. We have to start the legislative session tomorrow and we have to get to work right away.

Mr. Trump fully supports Mr. Johnson, so it would be a total embarrassment if Mr. Johnson did not seek re-election.

Democrats promised zero Democratic votes would be available to elect Johnson.. All Democrats will vote for Democratic leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.

For years, mainstream media has promoted President Trump’s theory that the president-elect controls House Republicans, but as the government funding bill debacle showed, his influence is on the decline. It seems so.

If Mike Johnson has to contest multiple votes to be re-elected as speaker, it would be a loss for Trump.

Johnson’s defeat would be further evidence of Trump’s declining influence as he takes office as a lame duck president.

Mike Johnson is desperate because if the speaker’s election drags on, it will delay the certification of the 2024 election.

Things were already off to a bad start before the Republicans came to power.
