At Meta Connect last month, Mark Zuckerberg said Meta AI is “on track” to become the world’s most used generative AI assistant. The company has now passed a key milestone toward that goal, with Meta AI’s user base exceeding the 500 million user mark, Zuckerberg revealed during the company’s latest earnings call.
The 500 million user mark was reached just one year after the social network first launched its AI assistant last fall. Zuckerberg expects his company to be the “most used” assistant by the end of 2024, but he hasn’t said how the company measures that metric.
Meta’s assistant isn’t the only AI tool boosting the company’s business. Zuckerberg said his time on Facebook has increased by 8% this year and his time on Instagram has increased by 5% this year due to improved feed and video recommendations powered by AI. Advertisers are also leveraging the company’s AI tools, he said, with more than 15 million ads created using generative AI in the last month alone. “We believe there’s a lot more upside here,” Zuckerberg said.
Outside of AI, Meta’s Threads app continues to grow rapidly. Zuckerberg said the service currently has “approximately 275 million” monthly users. “We’re seeing more than 1 million new registrations per day,” Zuckerberg said, adding that “engagement is also increasing.”
