MANILA, Philippines — After his controversial transfer to La Salle University, Mason Amos has broken his silence and apologized to the Ateneo University for not disclosing his final decision to transfer to the team.
Amos, who is currently with Gilas Pilipinas of Latvia for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OTQ), admitted on Friday that he was “inconsiderate” about how his decision to leave the Blue Eagles was revealed.
“This is a decision I made for myself and it has been a difficult week, but my actions were unacceptable and unjustified. I informed management of the offer but did not inform them or my teammates of my final decision as I felt this was a personal decision for me and my family,” Amos wrote to X.

News broke on Monday that the 6-foot-7-inch Amos would be leaving Ateneo to face rival and Season 86 champion La Salle. He posted a lengthy farewell message to the Blue Eagles on his Instagram the next day.
This has been a tough week as the decision was made for my own convenience, but my actions were unacceptable and unjustified. I informed management of the offer, but my final decision was not made known to management or my teammates as I felt it was a personal matter…

“I apologize for being inconsiderate. I regret my actions to my teammates, coaches, the community and the alumni. I acknowledge my mistakes and could have been handled better,” Amos said. “I don’t expect forgiveness, but I hope for understanding. I love Ateneo and wish them the best.”
The Filipino-Australian big man impressed in his first and only season with the Blue Eagles, averaging 8.7 points and 3.3 rebounds as Ateneo reached the Final Four but was dethroned by the University of the Philippines, 2-2.
