Marcus Freeman has coached Notre Dame Fighting Ireland since 2021. He envisioned a head coach position after Brian Kelly left to join the LSU Tigers.

Since becoming head coach, Freeman has led Fighting Ireland to three consecutive winning seasons. In his first year he led the program to 9-4 records, the second to a 10-3 record and the third to a 14-2 run. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented coaches in college football.

On Wednesday, Freeman spoke with Adam Brenman about the difficulties dealing with success at Notre Dame.

“We were at the top of the college football world in Week 1, and we had a big win at College Gameday, and from the second week onwards, it’s the laugh stock of college football.

“Throughout the year, you’ll be reminding our peers, ‘Hey, we’re still the same team that lost to niu.’ I think it’s a lesson that sticks to the rest of my career, as I don’t deserve to be successful on Saturday without preparing the right way physically and mentally. ”

Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame scored a near-perfect regular season record in 2024, apart from Shock Week 2 defeat at the Northern Illinois Husky. The losses then served as a catalyst for the team’s growth. They were undefeated for the rest of the campaign until they were defeated by the Ohio State Buckeyes in the National Championship Game.

“There’s a mental approach that every game needs,” Freeman added. “You can see how we practice and say it.

What’s next for Marcus Freeman?

Next up for Marcus Freeman is to build on the success he achieved in his first three seasons as a coach at Fighting Ireland. Freeman helped the team drive the team to permanent postseason competition and spots as one of the country’s most technically sound programs.

Fighting Ireland will begin the 2025 regular season in Miami, where they will face Carson Beck and the Hurricane. They then have what appears to be a favorable schedule for the rest of the campaign.

However, we can expect Freeman to keep his side on his toes to avoid situations similar to last week 2 debacles. The goal of this campaign is to go a long way, win long, long national titles.
