Polls have found that majorities of Republicans and all voters believe Donald Trump is too old and want him out of the running.
According to a YouGov poll: “In a YouGov poll conducted July 25-29, 59% of Republicans surveyed said they would like a president under the age of 75. Trump turned 78 in June. Forty percent said they had no preference, and just 2% said they would like a president over the age of 75.”
Earlier, an Associated Press poll found that 57% of Americans want Trump to drop out of the election.
A majority of Americans and members of his own party clearly want Trump gone, meaning the Republican Party has now fielded the same candidate for a third consecutive presidential election.
Republicans had a chance. Primary voters had other options. They could have chosen Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis, but they chose to support Trump because, like the former president, they assumed it would be a rematch with Joe Biden.
Even Republicans are beginning to express doubts that Trump will be able to match Kamala Harris’ energy and stamina as she faces off against the vice president.
Donald Trump is currently the oldest candidate in the race, and about 60% of Republicans want a younger candidate.
