Rizzo The harassment lawsuit brought against her was a major legal victory, at least for her personally…but her tour company still faces serious litigation.
Here’s the deal… On Monday, a judge dismissed a former backup dancer’s lawsuit. Asha Daniels Against Rizzo as an individual, the court ruled that such claims could only be brought against Daniels’ employer and not against Rizzo personally.
Essentially, the judge ruled that Rizzo could not be held personally liable for the harassment alleged in the lawsuit.
However, this only applies to Lizzo personally…and her company Big Grrrl Big Touring still has to deal with the lawsuit.
So there’s some good news in Lizzo’s personal account…but BGBT Inc. isn’t out of the woods.
Remember… last September, Asha filed a lawsuit. While working as a makeup artist on Lizzo’s tours, she claimed that she was sometimes forced to work 20-hour days. She says she was ultimately fired before her contract ended.
Daniels also claims that she was forced to listen to racist and fatphobic comments while on tour. Lizzo has denied all allegations in the lawsuit against her.
We reached out to Lizzo about the termination, but have not heard back so far.
