Time Usage Survey (TUS) provides a framework for measuring the disposal of time by the population in a variety of activities.
This is an important source of information about the activities carried out by the population and the duration of such activities being carried out.
The results of the 2024 survey revealed that 75% of men and 25% of women in the age group between 15 and 59 years old participated in employment and related activities during the 24-hour reference period.
He said that in 2019, 70.9% of men and 21.8% of women of the same age group. Female participants in unpaid domestic services spent about 305 minutes on these activities in 2024, versus 315 minutes in 2019, indicating a shift from unpaid to paying pursuits. Approximately 41% of women aged 15-59 participated in caregiving of household members, with 21.4% of men participating in this age group in such activities.
Additionally, female participants in caregiving activities spent about 140 minutes per day, compared to 74 minutes for male respondents of the same age group.
This supports Indian social fabric, where most of the caregiving responsibilities to household members are borne by women in the household.
Approximately 24.6% of the rural population ages 15-59 participated in the production of goods for their final use, spending 121 minutes a day on such activities.
Approximately 89.3% of children aged 6-14 participated in learning activities, spending around 413 minutes a day on such activities.
People over the age of six spent 11% of their day in culture, leisure, mass media and sports practices in 2024 compared to 9.9% in 2019.
For multiple timeslot activities, a maximum of three activities that ran for more than 10 minutes was recorded. Time usage information was collected for individuals over the age of 6 years and over with a 24-hour reference period.
This study covers 1,39,487 households (83,247 rural and 56,240 cities).
Time usage information was collected from each member age 6 and older in selected households.
The study listed 4,54,192 people aged 6 and older (country: 2,85,389 and city: 1,68,803).
Time usage data was collected through CAPI (computer-assisted personal interview).
