Vice President Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump New Civiqs poll from Daily KosMore voters are confident that Harris can beat Trump than President Joe Biden, 49% to 45%. Harris has solidified her support among traditional Democrats, but Trump remains a sticking point and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, has been a drag on the Republican nominee.
Despite these changing trends, a growing number of voters still believe Trump will win.
June investigationBiden and Trump were pegged at 45% each, and Harris’ four-point gain this month signals an almost palpable sense of relief among voters.
Biden has received strong support since dropping out of the race: 55% of respondents said they were glad Biden dropped out of the race, including 59% of independents, 67% of young people, 50% of black voters, and 59% of Hispanic voters.
On the other side of the question – whether Harris is more likely to beat Trump than Biden – 76% of Democrats and 46% of independents say she is more likely to win. Again, black (60%), Hispanic (58%) and young voters (62%) are more likely to say Harris can get the job done.
The gains Harris is getting over Biden are coming from all of these groups, not just women: Last month, Biden had 52% support among women, while Harris now has 58%. Harris leads Biden by nine points among younger voters (55% to 46%) and by 11 points among black voters (86% to 75%) and Hispanic voters (57% to 46%).
Harris has a slight lead in favorability ratings: 43% of respondents have a favorable view of the vice president, compared to 42% for Trump. Both are well ahead of Trump’s running mate, Vance, who is already unpopular with 51% of voters. That’s a very high disapproval rating for a first-term senator who may have been little known before Trump nominated him. Even among Republicans, only 67% think Vance would have been a good choice. Voters are poised to turn him away.
Trump continues to be seen as a threat to democracy, with 39% of voters saying their biggest concern about Trump is his “impact on American democracy,” far surpassing all other issues. The next most worrisome issue for them is abortion and social policy, with 8% of respondents saying this is their biggest concern.
But when it comes to who they think will ultimately win the election, 45% of respondents think Trump will win, while 42% think Harris will win. A June poll showed Harris had a clear lead, with only 37% believing Biden would win.
She is closing the gap and voters believe she has a better chance than Biden, but Democrats still have work to do.
Kamala Harris has the momentum and enthusiasm, let’s keep it up and help her close that gap!
