Apple TV+ Apple TV+’s new series Lady in the Lake is the perfect blend of history and mystery. Set in 1960s Baltimore, the seven-episode series is based on Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel of the same name. According to the synopsis, Lady in the Lake centers around the murder of a young Jewish girl. […]

“There was a certain element of vulnerability about him, feeling more vulnerable than normal, that really helped me get there. But the most important thing was the physicality, and Alma introduced me to some really great, amazing coaches who helped me with the way I moved and the way I spoke,” he said. “I think the physicality is how I got into that mental space. Steven feels trapped. So I felt like if I could get that into my body, it opened up the rest of the world for me.”

The actor emphasized how important it was for himself and Harrell to lose weight in a healthy way.

“When I got to Baltimore, Alma had a doctor there who made sure I was OK, and I was. [They] “It took place over a six-month period, and I was constantly traveling back and forth, so it gave me great material on how to sustain that,” he recalls. “That was probably the biggest challenge.” [where] All the while, I had to figure out how to maintain my weight. But I did a lot of research and tried not to starve myself.”

Arnold struggled to portray Steven’s emotional state.

“What’s really great about having Alma on hand is that she really cares about her actors. She really makes sure they’re happy with the work and she gave us amazing breathing and physical exercises when we needed to get there emotionally, which was just a godsend,” he said. “A lot of times in production there’s not time for that, but she scheduled it so that we didn’t feel rushed.”

Arnold noted that feeling “physically constrained” enhanced the emotional element of the role, adding, “It was really important for us to never psychoanalyze the character, but just focus on his actions and his experiences and how that manifests physically through him.”

To properly portray Steven, Arnold avoided making any judgments about the character, despite his sometimes questionable on-screen behavior (in the second episode, Steven wears a gas mask while sitting in a bathtub with fish).

“I think sometimes it’s better to just approach it as simply as possible – just try to understand what he wants and what he wants,” Arnold explained, before alluding to Steven’s apparent trauma. “Rather than trying to analytically judge who Steven is, we tried to focus on what happens to him, his actions, and portray the character through that.”

meanwhile Lady of the Lake Although the film was inspired by true crimes, Arnold didn’t let that limit his acting.

“It’s loosely inspired by true events, but it’s fiction, so I think I focused most on what was in the script,” Arnold said. we“I certainly [the person] There’s very little information about him online, but I see this character as its own character. It’s not based on anyone. So I didn’t want to get trapped in trying to recreate what I thought it should have been. I wanted to come at it fresh.”

“At the time, I loved what I was doing. That was what drove me. But when I look back, I always wonder if there was something I could have done differently, if there was a better way for me.
