I’m not a “Craven” to watch again. This movie put the final nail in the coffin of what was once Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
plot
Kraven’s complicated relationship with his ruthless father sets him on a path of revenge, and motivates him to become not only the world’s greatest hunter, but one of the world’s most feared hunters..
review
Aaron Taylor-Johnson does not disappoint in his role as Kraven the Hunter, giving a great performance as Kraven. Russell Crowe and Fred Hechinger star as Nikolai Kravinoff and Dmitri Kravinoff, respectively, and do a great job playing the villainous Kravinov family. Alessandro Nivola plays the role of Alexei Sytsevich and it was nice to see a different take on Rhino’s character.
Aaron really portrays the character well and the R rating is definitely a good fit for the movie. Some scenes are quite intense. I would have loved to have seen Kraven fight Spider-Man, take on the Punisher, etc. in the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I rate Kraven the Hunter a 2 out of 5. Although this movie has a lot of action scenes, it’s still a Marvel movie, so there are many factors to consider when unraveling the movie. Kraven is another hero who was a great villain in Marvel’s larger plans, considering his rivalry with Spider-Man. There is no golden thread in the larger Sony Spider-Man universe. It makes it feel like it’s just a random standalone movie in space that begs the question, “Was Kraven the Hunter really necessary?” Also, despite Kraven the Hunter being part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe, there is no mention of Spider-Man, let alone an actual appearance. This is really unfortunate. Although the film is blessed with various cameos, the Golden Thread ends up being cut short as no important characters appear and there is no real connection to the rest of the Sony Spider-Man universe. . As the main villain of the story, Rhino was treated differently in terms of design compared to previous Spider-Man films such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but as the main villain, Rhino was given too much attention in the film. It was quickly exterminated. Finally, there is no post-credits scene at the end, so you don’t have to wait until the end. This sends the message that there may not be any future installments in Sony’s Spider-Man universe. Is this the end of Sony’s Spider-Man universe? Has Sony’s Marvel Universe finally come to an end?
This is the trailer for “Kraven the Hunter” (Marvel Entertainment). See it at a movie theater near you. The film is available in IMAX at select theaters in Cape Town, South Africa.
