As we approach the finale, fans get an inside glimpse of how one romance begins, as well as how another ends.
Christine and David’s relationship has progressed quickly but romantically over the past two years, and the show showcases their initial courtship in a way that explains why their marriage was such a rapid affair. I’m doing it.
That being said, we watch Meri and Kody’s divorce become official, and it was a painful and awkward moment to watch.
And things got weirdly sexual for the ex-lover.
Meri and Kodi, the end of an era
As Christine announces the big news of her kids and her engagement to Janelle, Meri takes control of her future and is finally moving out of Coyote Pass.
The important moving day is coming. As promised, Kodi helps you load your belongings into the moving van and drive them to your new location.
He hopes she takes it as a “goodwill gesture,” but Meri has been sending Kody a message from the beginning. First, she’s wearing a shirt about “karma,” making fun of their marriage.
Come to think of it, it turns out that the day of the move will be the couple’s 33rd wedding anniversary. In fact, Kodi wonders aloud if she planned it that way, which of course she denies.
But the day is not in a gloomy mood. Kody admits he has “mixed feelings” and Meri gets angry over a conversation about bed sets, but the two seem to be able to work surprisingly well together.
Then things take a strange turn.
Meri supports Kodi
Nathan, Meri’s brother-in-law and Kody’s best friend, is also joining in on the move.
As they start loading the truck, Meri helps Nathan bring in his stationary bike and walks backwards into the space. Meri walks towards Kodi as neither she nor Nathan see Kodi already in the truck. Well, her butt actually moves towards Kodi because of the angle of the movement. Seeing this go down, Nathan actually pushes the bike a little to bring Meri closer to Kody.
It feels like a harmless joke. Everyone laughs and tears flow. Meri even says she might pee in her pants. But while Kody seems to find the moment to be harmless fun, he sings a different tune in his confessional.
“Me and Robin certainly joke about things that we consider sacred, because it was sexual in nature.”
Oh, yes, Robin. Speaking of her…
Tears, tears, and more tears
While Kody helps Meri prepare for her move, Janelle finally meets David for the first time at Christine’s new home. As expected, Janelle loves him and is nothing but happy for his sister wife.
The two then start talking about Meri and agree that she is very happy to be able to move on with her life. Despite their differences, they truly want what’s best for Meri. In that vein, Christine states that what’s good for Meri isn’t just being away from Kody, it’s being away from Robyn.
She accused Robin of manipulating Meri for years and playing her like a fiddle. Robin, of course, denies this in his confessional, saying that such a thing is “impossible.”
Back at Meri’s house, Robin arrives with a gift for Kody’s first wife. They leave the men and return home, but Robin cannot control his emotions. She cried endlessly, but Meri didn’t.
In her confessional, Meri admitted that her emotions are guarded and she doesn’t share them with people she doesn’t trust. This obviously includes Robin. As for Kody, he knows Robin doesn’t feel “good” about Meri’s move, but he claims he can’t relate.
“This is a heartbreaking event that I can’t even fathom,” Cody says, which proves to be quite ironic when you consider what happens next.
final farewell
In the show’s finale, Kody helps Meri move her luggage to the B&B. After work is finally done, the ex-lovers face each other to say goodbye, but Kody says goodbye. He, like Robin, begins to cry, mourning that “the final nail has been driven into the coffin of our dreams.”
However, Meri admitted that she was confused by his crying face. He was the one who wanted this. He was the one who said we should break up and end our marriage.
“I’m always surprised when you get this emotional. I don’t understand,” Meri told him through tears. In response, he only admitted that he longed for what they had.
“I just look at my life and feel like it’s not turned upside down. …I feel like something happened.”
However, in the final moments, Kody actually apologizes for the past “seven years” and says he hopes they can truly be friends from now on. He even considers them “brother and sister” and jokes that if one day his “favorite ex-wife” marries someone else, he might walk down the aisle with her.
All of this leaves Meri more confused than ever. And can you blame her?
