MANILA, Philippines – La Salle University was struggling to come from seven points down but, led by Kevin Quiambao, the Green Archers rallied to beat National University, 78-75, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
Quiambao scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, including a game-winning 3-pointer with 9.8 seconds left, to help the defending champions.

“As usual, nag live, pinakita ko lang ung anoyon brand, lang ako sa magakampiko at basketball namin. It was good, naman, nagi click kamisa de pensasa the last three minutes, then nak ha naminyon panalo,” Quiambao said.

“Lahat ng team, gung yan majiging story samin. Gagawin, nila yong, best nila para matalo, lang kami pero, gagawin ding naming yong, best naming,” he added.

The 24-year-old forward continued his strong form after being named MVP in Season 86, finishing with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Mike Phillips backed up Quiambao with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, and EJ Gorena added 10 points.
“As advertised, most of the games we play are going to be like this. What was good about the experience against NU? [is that it’s] “It’s going to make us better,” La Salle University coach Topex Robinson said.

“We really have to find a way to win. We know every team is going to come out and play us,” said Robinson, in his second season at the helm at La Salle University.
Jake Figueroa and PJ Palacielo led the Bulldogs with 15 points each. Palacielo also grabbed 12 rebounds.
Ian Manansala tied the score at 75-75 with a layup before Quiambao hit a three-pointer to take the lead.
