The Phoenix Suns finished seventh in the Western Conference last year, but their superstar forward drew comparisons to the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Kevin Durant is amazing at basketball. Even aliens. When healthy, he continues to dominate on both ends of the floor, no matter where he goes. But that doesn’t mean he’s not delusional.
Durant appeared on “Up & Adams” with FanDuel TV’s Kay Adams and was asked to compare the Suns to NFL teams.
“I think it’s the Chiefs,” Durant explained to Adams. “Because we bring that championship mentality to the table every day.”
Adams was quick to point out that while the Suns have never won an NBA championship, the Chiefs are aiming for their third straight Super Bowl appearance and currently have the NFL’s best record at 5-0. did. What would be a more appropriate comparison for Adams? Buffalo Bills.
“No,” Durant said. “They’re known for getting there and then just losing. I don’t want to be one of those guys. I’d rather go with the champions and carry on that mentality. Masu.”
There’s nothing wrong with that mentality, and Durant’s Suns will no doubt need it in a busy Western Conference this coming season. Needless to say, what else was Durant supposed to say? Of course, he was going to compare their team to the defending champions. He couldn’t be brutally honest. In short, Durant understands how much pressure is on his team to succeed in this year’s playoffs.
If Durant is Patrick Mahomes, which is a reasonably fair comparison, the Suns need Devin Booker and Bradley Beal to be a combination of Chris Jones and Travis Kelce.
No disrespect to Mike Budenholzer, but I’m not exactly sure if he’s Andy Reid either.
In fact, the Bills are a better comparison. Then again, Durant could be Josh Allen. But what else? You can’t really rely on the direction of their supporting cast.
Really? I’ll add the New York Jets as another comparison.
durant He just turned 36 in September.like Aaron Rodgers, is no longer a spring chicken. He tries to form a super team with some old friends, but it still doesn’t work out.
It’s hard to believe this will be Durant’s third year in Phoenix, even though he played just eight games in his first season in 2023 after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets. If Phoenix ends up struggling in the NBA playoffs again, you have to imagine the trio of Durant, Booker and Beal will be under a lot of scrutiny for a long time. There’s a good reason for that.
Even if the Chiefs don’t get their third straight Lombardi title, no one will seriously look at Mahomes, Kelce and Reid, point and laugh like we do against the Suns.
