Katie J. Pearson performed new songs from her upcoming album. Someday, NowThe song is titled “Maybe” and the music video is Eddie LawrencePlease check below.
Speaking about the new song, Pearson said:
This song has been in my head for years. It took me a while to get there… I was in the rehearsal room with Hugh Evans. [H. Hawkline]and changed the lyrics a little bit. The chorus was “maybe I need your love / to show me that I’m good enough,” and he was like, “Why are you treating yourself like this? It should be the other way around!” I was like, “Oh, I get it. Thank you. I’ve got a fellow feminist ally here.” It was brave of him to suggest that, because I get angry easily when men tell me what to do in the studio, but he was right.
When you change the emotion of a song [now maybe I don’t need your love / to show me that I’m good enough] It totally changed my mind. I was able to actually figure out what it should be acoustically. It just goes to show that who you’re in the room with really matters…
Speaking about the accompanying video, which is based around the theme of archery competition, Lawrence said:
Katie and I first met on the set of “Alligator”, the last video I shot for her. Since then we have been great friends and are thrilled to be collaborating again. We are both passionate about supporting each other and other women in the creative industries and are very aware of the gender inequality in our respective fields of work.
The concept of this video is again about women’s empowerment. Throughout history, archery has been associated with female strength and empowerment. Archery is known as the sport that pioneered equality in female participation and was one of the first sports to feature women in the Olympic Games in 1904.
This video is a celebration of sisterhood and female collaboration. Once again, it was created with a mostly female crew and would not have been possible without the expertise of the incredibly talented choreographer Sophie Chinner and costume designer Kiera Sanders. Sexism and misogyny are still prevalent in our world, which is why it’s so important to celebrate and support other women.
