Josh Hartnett He is comfortable with the term “idol” and is not afraid of it.
In the latest issue Men’s HealthThe 46-year-old actor looks back on the term that was associated with his name when he rose to fame in the late ’90s and early 2000s after starring in films like: Faculty, Halloween: H20 and Black Hawk Down.
“Hopefully I’ve learned a lot from it,” he told the magazine about the decades since he first appeared on screen. “Everything was brand new and shiny and very interesting.”
Still, he’s not ashamed to say he was one of the “It Boys” of his time.
“I remember it fondly,” he says, “but I also understand that there are people out there who are just trying to figure it out.”
In June, Hartnett spoke about the “Heartthrob” title. In an interview varietyHe said the attention has affected his career.
“I had no intention of becoming an idol,” he said at the time. “It affected me and I had to fight back against it. I really wanted to be a serious actor. What I didn’t realize was that I was in an amazing position to work with amazing directors on amazing projects. Effectively, it didn’t matter how people perceived me in the tabloids and so forth, as long as I was working in the industry. But I was too young to really understand it, to see the difference.”
Today, Hartnett is enjoying a quiet comeback in film and television. Oppenheimer, Black Mirror Directed by M. Night Shyamalan trapIn the film, Hartnett plays a father (and serial killer) who takes his teenage daughter to a concert of her favorite pop star, but soon realizes it’s a trap set by the police to catch him (aka The Butcher).
meanwhile Talking to E.T. At the film’s New York premiere last week, Hartnett said it was a return to his earlier work.
“It’s a thriller, a sort of ’90s thriller throwback, told from the antagonist’s point of view,” he said. “It was a lot of fun playing this character. I don’t want to play this character every day. It’s more fun to constantly change roles and always try different things. I always try to subvert people’s expectations with the work I do. I hope to surprise people.”
Like his character, Hartnett is living with two of his four children with wife Tamsin Egerton. Taylor Swift’s Erastour in LondonAfter experiencing the concert, Hartnett told ET that Shyamalan’s over-the-top feel in the concert film was spot on.
“I’ve never been [an Eras Tour show] “Before filming began, I thought that M. Knight’s direction for the kids was a bit much,” Hartnett told ET. “But that wasn’t the case. The kids went nuts. They went totally nuts.”
