Jeff Bezos’ new rocket, taller than the Statue of Liberty, has been launched into space.

The massive 320-foot-tall New Glenn rocket, named after legendary U.S. astronaut John Glenn, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station just after 2 a.m. ET on January 16, 2025. , the first launch was successful. Featuring a reusable first stage with seven powerful engines, it provides valuable competition to the rapidly evolving rocket industry.

This rocket has been under development for more than 10 years. Therefore, this was a long-awaited launch.

The company’s rocket factory is nine miles from the launch pad shown above, which allows Blue Origin to quickly refurbish rockets and deliver them to Space Force bases.

After its first successful launch, New Glenn will compete with SpaceX’s heavy-lift rockets, which have come to dominate the rocket industry.
